About
IC Microcinema is an all-volunteer organization, run by Iowa City filmmakers, dedicated to promoting the instruction, production, and screening of independently produced, adventurous, and thoughtful short films in an effort to build and fortify an inclusive community of active filmgoers and filmmakers. IC Microcinema is designed to bring the spirit and practice of the microcinema to Eastern Iowa.
Microcinemas serve to cultivate the production of film art and serve as community based hubs for audiences to view innovative, emerging, and pioneering films from around the world. Similarly, through workshops and seminars, screenings withvisiting artists, and unique events such as the “Video Race,” IC Microcinema celebrates film as a financially accessible form of creative expression by providing instruction in inventive and unconventional methods of film and video production, fosters a forum for collaboration among developing filmmakers and film enthusiasts, and exposes Eastern Iowa audiences to alternative forms of filmmaking not currently represented in the region.
The Creative Cinema Unit is IC Microcinema’s student organization at the University of Iowa.
